Today, April 28, marks the National Day of Mourning in Canada. Today is a day dedicated to remembering and honoring workers who have lost their lives, suffered injuries, or experienced significant illness due to their work. In 2023 alone, Canada recorded 1,057 workplace fatalities. Let this day serve as a reminder and a renewed commitment to the importance of workplace safety.
Since 1991, communities across the country observe this day by flying flags at half-mast, holding moments of silence, and participating in commemorative activities. We encourage anyone who can, to observe a moment of silence today at 11 am, in honor of those who have suffered and been lost.
It is everyone's responsibility to work safely for themselves and each other.
